Shivneri
This is Chhatrapati shivaji’s birth palace located 93 Kms from Pune. It is
in Junnar District and can be approached from Pune Nasik Road via Narayangaon.
Well preserved fort having 135 caves with Buddhist cave on the top.
Badami Talav (water pond), Statute of Shivaji and Jijabai , Nane Ghat, Jivdhan(trekking
place), Devi Shivai temple,Kaman Take,Dongarmatha, Kadeloot Tok are other places
to see here.
Shivaji spent his whole childhood on this fort.
This fort is difficult to climb.

Rajgadh
40 km away from Pune, at a height of 1376 mts above sea level, stands the Rajgad
fort, surrounded by other forts like Makarandgad, Rajgad, Torna, Sinhgad and Purandha.
Rajgad is very popular with trekkers, more so because of its proximity to other
forts.
Trekkers usually prefer to use the approach from Sawan village because it is very
steep. The most convenient way to the fort is by road. Buses ply between the Swargate
bus stop in Pune and the village Sawan.
It was here that Shivaji crowned himself a 'Chhatrapati'.
Padmavati machi is said to be a good place to stay here.
“Bale Killa” located on the top of the hill is main attraction.

Pratapgad
• 145 kms from Pune and 24 kms from Mahabaleshwar (can view from Mahabaleshwar)located
at the hight of 3550 feet.
• Pratapgad is 400 mts long and 200 mts wide depicts the stories of Shivaji’s
bravery which is built by Moropant Pingle in 1656.

Raigad
Located at the height of 3000 feet above sea level.
Towards south of Raigad-Pratapgad, Vasota and Makarandgad can seen. Towards East
Torna, Lingana, Rajgad can be seen.
Since Shivaji Maharaja’s Coronation held in this place, this fort is historically
significant.

Torna
One of the highest forts in Maharashtra located about 60 km southwest of
Pune at a height of 1400 mts.
Buses ply from the Swargate bus stop to the Velhe village. From there you can go
up the hill by foot.
Challenging place for trekkers which is very difficult to climb.
The fort has two entrances and houses the Tornajai and Torneshwar temples, besides
two reservoirs called the Toran and the Khokad.

Lohgad-Visapur
55 Kms from Pune. Lohagad and Visapur are clubbed together by trekkers.
Lohgad has two 'kothis' or houses, which at one time were supplied with water from
the reservoir situated on the hill. On either side of the hill there is an entrance.
The easiest way to get there is through Malavali either by road or by train. The
Malavali railway station is on the Pune-Mumbai route. From there it is a stretch
of 4km till the Bhaja caves. The road bifurcates at Gayamukh. One road leads to
Visapur and the other to Lohgad.The distance from Pune to Malavali is 64 kms.

Bhaja Caves & Karla caves and Bedsa Caves
Located 56 Km. from Pune on Mumbai-Pune road.
Very old caves ( about 2000 years) wit Buddhist sculpture. At Karla, you can enter
the largest collection of Chaitya caves and journey back to the 2nd century B.C.
Nearby are the Bhaja caves and Bedsa caves (Bedse caves), rich in Viharas, beautiful
carvings and story-telling inscriptions. 6 kms. away from Karla are the famous 18th
century forts - Lohagad fort and visapur fort. 3kms. away is Valvan Dam. Close to
Karla are the two popular hill stations Lonavala and Khandala.
MTDC provides you with water sports (except during the monsoon) and waterworld facilities.
Ekveera Devi temple, Chaityagruha are other places over here.
Nearest railway station – Kamshet.

Purandar
40 kms from Pune.
This place was the capital of Maharashtra under Shivaji for some time.
Now this place holds the academy of the National Cadet Corps (NCC).

Karnala
Located 130 kms from Pune near Panvel.
Famous for Bird Sanctuary. More than 100 verities of birds can be seen.
Good place for trekkers.

Rajmachi
Located about 50 kms from Pune at the height of about 3200 feet above sea
level.
One can have a close look of Konkan belt from Rajmachi. Matheran, Bhimashankar,
Nagphani and Karnala can also be seen from here.
Shrivardhan and Manaranjan are two peaks over here. Khondave Caves and Bhairoba
Temple are also famous over here.
Beautiful picnic spot having beautiful forest, Tungarli Lake, waterfalls etc.
