Shaniwarwada

Located at the heart of City and most prominent Landmark of Pune.

It was a 13 storey Building Constructed by Bajirao in the 18h Century.

It was the headquarter of the Peshwas. During its glorious days, the palace used to be the multi-story home of mighty Peshwas.

The Main entrance to this place is through iron-spiked Delhi Gate.

The nearby street was used to punish people by getting them crushed by elephants.

It got renovated recently.

Vishram Baug Wada

Located at Bajirao Road Near Laxmi Road.

Built by Bajirao Peshwas ( II ).

Constructed in Brikcs with carved wood works in balconies.
   
 
Agakhan Palace

Located at Pune-Nagar Road.

Agakhan Palace is the place where Mahatma Gandhi along with his wife Kasturba Gandhi and his secretary Mahadeobhai Desai were imprisoned here during the "Quit India Movement" in 1942.

Statue of the Mahatma Gandhi, his writing desk, his bed, Kasturba's Sari, Footwear,clothes are preserved properly in their place of use. Pictures of Indian Independence Movement adore the walls.

   
 
National War Memorial


Located near Empress Garden, Pune-Camp (In between Koregaon Park Raod and Bhairoba Nala on Solapur Road).

This is a 25-foot stone pillar surrounded on three sides by plaques of stone, established in 1997.

Each stone plaque has the names of all the soldiers, airmen and sailors who have laid down their lives in the defense of the motherland since independence. At the moment there are almost 1200 names that are inscribed on the walls. Enough space has been left, for any new inscriptions on the monument.

The Pune War memorial is the result of efforts of the citizens of the city who pay a unique homage to those who laid down their lives.

   
 
Lal Mahal

Located at the heart of city ( next to Shaniwarwada).

Palace built by Dadaji for Shivaji and his mother Jijabai.

Jijamata Statue, Picture of young Shivaji ploughing the land with a golden plough, Jijamata Garden, Four Umbrellas on terrace is the main attraction of Lal Mahal.

In 1988 Lal Mahal was renovated by Pune Municipal Corporation.

   
 
Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum

Located at Shaniwar Pet.

Oldest Temple ( 250 years old) constructed in Stone.

Omkareshwar and Amruteshwar are main Shivalayas.
   
 
Shinde’s Chatri

Located about 5 kms from Camp area.

This Monument built in the memory of great Mahadji Scindia, who was the Commander-in-chief of the Maratha Army under the Peshwas. His Coloured turban, an elaborately worked shawl, Pooja Vessels etc.. can see over here.

Famous for the architecture & carvings of this Monument.
   
 
Sinhagad

Located 25 kms away from Pune at the height of 1290 metres.

While fighting with Mughal army,Tanaji Malusare - Shivaji's trusted and one of the brave generals died in this place.

On hearing of the passing away of Tanaji, Shivaji is known to have said, "We have gained the fort but lost the lion". So the fort got its name ‘Sinha (lion) gad (fort). Previously this fort was known as Kondana.

It was in the year 1670, that Tanaji Malusre scaled the steep hill in the dark with his men and defeated the forces of Bijapur. According to legends, the Maratha forces used trained lizards to carry the ropes up the hillside.

The samadhi to Tanaji Malusare stands as a reminder of the bravery and glorious victory of the Marathas.

Good place for picnic and trekkers.

One can enjoy their picnic with traditional food like onion bhaji, curd, pitla bhakri, chicken etc.

   
 
Tilak Smarak Mandir

Located on Tilak Road is a building commemorating the great freedom fighter and social reformer Lokmanya Tilak.

There is a small museum on the ground floor describing Tilak's public life and a theatre on the upper floor.

   
 
Kesari Wada

This is the home of the Kesari newspaper started by Late Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak.

The first Indian National flag unfurled by Madam Cama and many documents are well preserved here.
